After Dealing with Several Clients in the Communication Design Area I have come up with some point which I find it very necessary to remember before ordering a poster design or any printing design.
Know the size of the Prints you want
In order to save your time in negotiation and talking over the phone or email it will be helpful for both the ends, you and your designer, if you know what size of poster, brochure, leaflet or whatever the print that you want. I recently had a Client who say that he does not have any specific details about the size and it is a very tough job for us, designer, if we the designer just in such cases design the said poster in say A4 Size and yet if he the Client print it in A3 the result may not be very pleasing since there might and probably will be a decline in terms of quality and resolution.
Don’t worry too much about the final print.
I had a Client who keeps asking me how it will look it got printed. It will look exactly the same? He keeps on repeating these kinds of questions again and again. Mind you! The Print quality can depends on the Printer you used for printing, The Paper quality you use for printing etc. So in the Designing process you won’t have to worry much about how it will be when you printed it, unless you have not decided the size of your design.
If the design you have made is intended to be printed at the very first moment when you made contact with the designer mention it. So in this way it will be easier for your designer to work.
If you have a concept stick to it
Some of the Clients that I have worked seem to be very good in telling their Concepts of Design. One Particular Clients I have worked with send me a sketch of the logo he wanted and after some minutes I send him the digital version of the logo, he started to point out the things he did not like. I make the changes and send him back. This process goes on like ten times when finally we landed up where he says, “I’m Satisfy with it!” but the thing is that the final logo where he says he is satisfy, after looking together with the first draft, I found out that they are exactly the same. This means that the changes that he made had make no sense at all!
If You ask him to design let him do it.
If you surrender yourself to him and ask him for everything about the concept and stuffs let him do his work. Do not ask unnecessary questions. You might irritate him and walk away with no job done. At the end of the day remember that you had no idea about the design and concept so you have surrender to him, so just lay back and tell him the colors that you like the things that pleases you etc. so that he might have something you will be very happy with.
Do not bargain a designer; it is something that should never be done. Instead if you find him to be very expensive find another one which will be cheaper. But again, when the price goes down the quality degrades and you have limited options. Designing is something which cannot be compared with any other profession. Since designing takes a lot of thinking, analysis and research to me personally should never be bargain.
I will be adding some more thoughts now and then so please do watch out for more to come. Thank you for coming here.

Introduction Adobe Creative Cloud:
With the introduction of the Creative Cloud now we can have more option in our ways of working, all of which is for good.
The Creative Cloud is not only about the Apps it is a PowerPack Product from the adobe for creative user, incorporated with direct file publishing online via Behance, your entire work flow from ideas, source code, fonts, settings etc can now be accessed online and sync from anywhere or shared.
Having Creative Cloud does not means that you will have to connect to the internet every time you are running your App. You can also work offline once the Apps are being registered, after which you will need to login to your CC Account Once in a month for the monthly subscriber and once in three months for the Yearly subscriber.
The Cool thing about the Creative Cloud is its ability to sync your setting and port it anywhere you are. Just Login to your CC account in a different PC and run the apps, it will show you the option to use the current settings or setting from your Creative Cloud. The settings that are sync include Preferences, Workspaces, Swatches, Presets, Keyboard Shortcuts, Symbols, Brushes, Graphic Styles, East Asian Settings. The sync can also be done manually.
You can also have quick access to your files by saving them using your CC account, the CC account comes with 2 GB storage , save the file in the CC Folder and you will have access from anywhere at any time.
Most of the Application in creative cloud are now Mac De-carbonised to meet the requirement for current Mac OS and upcoming versions. It will now be faster as they support 64bits operating system for both Mac and Win (64bits was also supported by the earlier versions).
Adobe Illustrator CC:
While many of us have though Adobe might come up with another version of Creative Suite, yet they have surprised us with the Creative Cloud version. The Ai CC has gone through major changes in many areas.
Among the many changes and new features incorporated inside the Ai CC are …..
a) Improved Kuler Extension:
With the new Kuler extension Color Theme you created using the Kuler app in your phone or from the website get synchronised automatically and can be used right away.
b) Streamlined Text Features, Font Sync and the New Touch Type Tool
Many of us love working with Typography and the Type tool sometimes just seems to not give the feel at all. Ai has two type of text: The Point Type and The Area Type. Sometimes by mistake you might have your type using the Point Type when you are supposed to use The Area Type, suddenly then you realised and have to copy all the text and go through the process of making a text box for Area Type and Pasting it. Now with the New Ai CC you can easily change this but just a mouse click.
Love playing around with Type Faces, this is the thing for you, With the help of Creative Cloud Typekit app you can search for fonts and sync it to use it in your artworks.
Now the Ai CC comes with this really really amazing features call The Touch Type Tool. It does magic and gives you the ability to transform, rotate, reposition each letters individually in a text box yet still have it as a Text. Remember in the previous version of our Ai when such thing done changing the wording means going through the whole process once again from outlining the text to ungrouping the result. We can now say goodbye to those days thanks to Adobe.
c) On Art Free Transform
The Behaviour of the Transform tool has also been upgraded to keeping in mind the touch devices. You will enjoy the full functionality of these new transformations tools if you use your Ai with Touch Screen Devices like the Wacom Cintiq HD and Windows 8. This does not mean that the functionality is not available in mouse driven transformation. The new transformation tools include, Free Transform, Constrain, Perspective Distort and, Free Distort.
d) Images for Brushes????
From Calligraphies Brushes to Art Brush we have grown, taking references from the Real world brushes but now we have the ability to use images in Brush. You can now use rasterised images for Art Scatter and Pattern brushes. Import the image embed it (if the image is not embedded it will not work) and drag it into your brush panel, a dialog box will appear, just chose one of the options according to your preferences and you are done.
e) Auto Generated Corners
In Ai CC they have included lots of magic into it. Ever created a custom brushes before in Ai?? You might be aware of how difficult it is to make accurate corners for the brushes. Now you can say Bye Bye to that, because with the new Ai CC comes a magic called Auto Generate Corners. It automatically generates corners for your custom brushes. Just double click on the brush from the brush panel and a dialog box will pop up for you.
f) Multiple Image Placing and Linked Content
For InDesign users this might not be the wow factor since you have been using the Multiple Image placing feature quiet a long time now. But as for us this is new! With the New Feature I can now place images place it scale it and go on with the second image.
Prior to CC once images are embedded into Ai nothing can be done, but now you can easily un-embeds or extract the image, or even sent it to Adobe Photoshop for colour correction.
g) CSS Extraction
Love creating web layout? But hate coding? Not a problem at all anymore! Just design what you love and Ai CC will take care of the rest of it because the Magician behind The apps just included CSS Extraction Features for you.
Now you can easily extract the CSS code for your design rather than just serve as a visual guide. It is good to keep in mind that HTML file is not being generated by Ai CC, the CSS you generate from it can be copied and easily pasted on your HTML File/CSS File.
Well, the new Ai CC is pretty amazing isn’t it? That’s not all after you finish off with your work or while you are working (work in progress) you can easily use the Creative Cloud to present your work to your client or share to a large community of designer by uploading it to your Behance Profile. All you need to do is simply go to File>Share on Behance.

Working to and fro with Ps and Ai can be fun but sometime having multiple source file for a single project becomes a nuisance. The one solution to this problem is solved with Smart Objects in Ps.
“With Smart Objects, you can:
· Perform nondestructive transforms. You can scale, rotate, skew, distort, perspective transform, or warp a layer without losing original image data or quality because the transforms don’t affect the original data.
· Work with vector data, such as vector artwork from Illustrator, that otherwise would be rasterized in Photoshop.
· Perform nondestructive filtering. You can edit filters applied to Smart Objects at any time.
· Edit one Smart Object and automatically update all its linked instances.
· Apply a layer mask that’s either linked or unlinked to the Smart Object layer.
· Try various designs with low-resolution placeholder images that you later replace with final versions.”
(Source: Photoshop / Create Smart Objects | Adobe Help)
So now, You make your source file with Ai the after having created all your work Select all and copy it into Ps ( with your desired size of canvas size) and paste it as Smart Object, then save it. You can now exit your Ai without saving it because you have already embedded it into your Ps as Smart Object. The next time you want to make any changes or resize your art/work you can just right click on the Smart Object in Ps and select Edit Content which will bring up Ai with all your vector files.
Ai = Adobe Illustrator
Ps = Adobe Photoshop
